Pheasants Forever of Linn County and its members feel the need to offer an opportunity to strengthen community involvement through patriotism. While this organization is known for its habitat and conservation impact, our members sought to expand their passion for the outdoors while providing an opportunity for those who have served in the armed forces.

The Heroes Hunt, a guided upland bird hunt for veterans, was created as a way to express thanks to our veterans for their service to our country. Since the original event of sporting clays in 2013 at the Highland Hideaway.  The event has grown more than in community outreach since 2013 to present day and now been enjoyed not only by the veterans but the Pheasants Forever volunteers who helped to make the event successful. As a result of the positive response to the event, the Linn County chapter and its partner, Highland Hideaway Hunting, have agreed to make the Heroes Hunt an annual event.

The Heroes Hunt continues to provide an opportunity for the Linn County Pheasants Forever Chapter to pay tribute to local veterans for the sacrifices they and their families have made for freedom. The latest Heroes Hunt hosted more than forty veterans who were taken into the field by their guides and harvested pheasants over some of Iowa’s finest gundogs.
