Linn County Pheasants Forever Hosts Successful Elite Member Slam at Cedar Ridge Brewery
Swisher, Iowa — During the second week of May 2026, the Linn County Chapter of Pheasants Forever (Chapter 45) gathered at the scenic Cedar Ridge Brewery near Swisher for the Elite Member Slam, a special event designed to strengthen the chapter and advance its mission of habitat conservation and upland wildlife protection.
The event brought together dedicated members, volunteers, and supporters in a relaxed, social atmosphere at one of eastern Iowa’s popular craft breweries. Attendees enjoyed good conversation, great beverages, and the camaraderie that defines the Pheasants Forever community while focusing on an important goal: growing and energizing the chapter’s membership base.
The Elite Member Slam served as a key initiative in Pheasants Forever’s organizational membership drive. The gathering encouraged current members to recruit new supporters and highlighted the benefits of becoming an Elite Member — Pheasants Forever’s higher-level membership tier that provides additional support for critical conservation work across Iowa and beyond.
“This type of event is exactly what helps our chapter thrive,” said a Linn County Pheasants Forever representative. “Bringing people together in a fun setting allows us to connect, share our passion for the outdoors, and reinforce our commitment to conserving pheasants, quail, and the habitats they depend on.”
Pheasants Forever’s mission emphasizes habitat improvement, public access to hunting and wildlife areas, youth education, and advocacy for sound conservation policies. Events like the Elite Member Slam play a vital role in building the strong local leadership needed to carry out that mission effectively in Linn County and surrounding areas.
The chapter extends its thanks to Cedar Ridge Brewery for hosting the event and to all the members who attended and showed their continued support. With strong momentum heading into the rest of 2026, Linn County Pheasants Forever remains focused on habitat projects, youth engagement, and expanding its impact for future generations of hunters and conservationists.

Licenses and memberships were available for purchase at Highland Hideaway on the day of the event.
Hunters provided their own shotguns and were required to wear blaze orange and eye protection. Ammunition was provided and distributed by their field guides.
Applications were accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Due to limited participant slots, the application process closed on September 15.
Participants received lunch on the day of their hunt and had the chance to win raffle prizes supporting Linn County Pheasants Forever’s habitat, outreach, and education projects in and around Linn County.
This event was offered free of charge to all selected participants. To help cover costs and continue offering the hunt at no charge, the chapter sought sponsors and raffle donations.

Overview
Hunter education is a mandatory program that is designed to introduce students to several life-long skills that are important to many different types of outdoor recreational opportunities. The course teaches students basic survival and first aid skills, water safety, wildlife identification, and the basics of wildlife management, hunting laws, and firearm/archery safety. Hunter education also stresses the importance of individual responsibility and outdoor ethics.
Iowa law requires that anyone born after January 1, 1972 must be certified in hunter education before they are eligible to purchase an Iowa hunting license.
Typically there is no charge for the course, unless lunch is furnished or room rental is required. If a charge is required for the items mentioned previously, the class will indicate the amount to be charged in the special instructions section prior to completing the class registration process. All charges must be paid upon arrival to the class in the form of cash or check.
About the Class
Hunter Education Classroom courses are offered by knowledgeable and certified volunteer instructors and Iowa Conservation Officers.
Classroom courses are typically 12-15 hours in length and are held over 2 to 3 sessions (days). In order to receive certification, a student must attend all sessions (days) and pass the final exam.

While we all like to have fun in the field and chase pheasants for miles, safety is one of the most important aspects. We promote and encourage hunter safety in the field.
Hunter education classes show both youth and adults the proper way to hold, maneuver and practice proper gun care. We at Iowa believe it is essential for kids to become familiar with gun operation and be comfortable with handling their firearm.
For more information on our youth hunts, please contact us through our website. If you are interested in enrolling yourself or your child in the Iowa hunter education course, please click the link below.
Shooting Sports
The Linn County Pheasants Forever assists a local collegiate shooting sports team with hosting a collegiate 16 yard trap shoot in Cedar Rapids in the month of October.
